I tortured myself in that way for almost 10 years of working in retail. It almost killed me. I did have bosses who would reward me for my drive and commitment (partially because I was always ASKING- very important) but no matter how many raises (many), or paid trips (lots), or bonuses I got, it was never enough. I finally realized that my frustration about how far I wanted to go professionally was not on their shoulders, it was my initiative and it wasn't going to happen if someone else was in charge all of the time. Now, I am using the skills I developed in that field to work for myself. On my own terms. Doing what I want, when I want, with who I want. And deciding how much I will get paid for it. Developing a sense of personal power will bring more opportunities into your life than you ever dreamed of. And when you tap into that power, you can create ANYTHING you want in your life!!
