Technique- Start with the barbell on the floor. Pull the barbell up keeping it close to the body as if you are doing the first part of the a clean. Stop your pull as you reach the low hang, just above your knees. Hold this position briefly and lower back down. Advantages- To clean heavy weights you have to be strong in your hand positions. Your speed may be good, but if you lose positioning because the weight is heavy you will fail the clean. This allows you to build strength in one of the most crucial parts of the clean. Faults- Do not let the weight come forward onto your quads. Keep shins vertical and knees pulled back. The weight should stay on your heels as you hold this position. If the weight is resting on your quads it is incorrect. Scaling- This can be done from a rack, and do a variation of rack pulls.
