Blues Guitar Lessons www.play-blues-guitar.eu Blind Blake - Southern Rag - Blues Guitar Lesson Preview When first starting to look for those perfect lessons for guitar, most people would use the all-powerful 'G', and 'Google it'. More and more searches for everything imaginable are performed on Youtube, and now it's the 2nd most favorite search engine after Google itself. Like Google, the number of items returned for a phrase like 'blues guitar lessons' is formidable - what is the best way to choose the lessons right for you? Youtube guitar lessons include all kinds of styles and instruction levels, both paid and for free. Many of the big boys in selling guitar lessons have developed a really effective marketing style that employ many kinds of psychological hooks to induce you to buy. Barely a beginner? That's OK - we'll have you performing like a pro in 3 weeks. Intermediate player? We'll raise your playing up a notch. Experienced player? Our course will turn you into a guitar God, and so it goes. Amongst my favorites is the ubiquitous advert 'The Three Major Mistakes That 90% Of Guitarists Make", or something like that, which is pretty hard to resist, it it has to be said. Truth is, playing above average guitar takes practice, dedication and time. Naturally, the learning thing can be made easier with clear-cut instruction and accurate blues guitar tabs. Guitar tablature is the fundamental characteristic of excellent guitar lessons. It needn't be extremely complex in the least, with just basic notation showing finger positions and chord diagrams. Some tablature just goes way over the top, attempting to capture the feel and ambiance of genuine blues picking, which it can't possible do! This brings us to the second characteristic of good blues guitar lessons - the instructor should be able to play the stuff to a high level (and that tab should precisely indicate what he does.) Guitar tablature by itself isn't enough to translate that subtle pause, or the thumb strike that is slightly off-beat when needed to emphasize the words. Of course, the tablature system can indicate that a single thumb strike should be damped with the hand's palm, but can't indicate that this damping movement itself isn't constant, but changes in sound as the pressure of the palm on the strings is continuously being changed according to the style of the song. Take your time when searching for any instruction, whatever kind you are looking for. The Chinese say 'a year or two spent doing nothing but locating the right instructor is very well spent'. That's about right. You might not need to take a year in your quest, but make your choice carefully and side-step all the hype. Don't expect to improve in two weeks, relax, don't beat yourself up and above all, savor the music and the journey.
