Poverty Stoplight is an innovative tool which has been proven in multiple countries across the world as a way to measure poverty and to support individuals, households and communities to do something about it. Transmit Enterprise CIC are exclusive license holders to roll out Poverty Stoplight across the UK, starting with a pilot programme, Byker Life, in Newcastle-upon-Tyne’s Byker ward. Poverty Stoplight takes the form of a simple survey, that has been adapted specifically for the UK, which makes poverty “visible” by dividing the subject into 6 dimensions and 54 indicators, so that an individual can visualise the ways in which poverty affects themselves and their household. At the end of the survey a Life Map action plan is produced and presented to the household. The programme launched 8 years ago in Paraguay and is now running in various countries including South Africa and United States. Poverty Stoplight recognises that individuals can become agents of their own personal development, raising their own standard of living, and the Life Map is used to help them achieve that.
