►Watch Xavier De Le Rue’s 55˚ steep Mallory Couloir: win.gs/DIYE2 The Saleina couloir, often known as "The Big Crack," is an imposing 3,281-foot vertical descent sandwiched between immense rock walls that protrude into the sky. Not only was there no turning back once the team committed to ride this chute, but the window of opportunity to escape was slim as can be with only one possible escape route on this steep, long, particularly icy couloir. This is of course the perfect mission for Xavier de Le Rue and his good friend and mountain guide Sam Anthamatten. For Xavier's wife Beanie de Le Rue, however, the mission proved a tad intimidating.
