submitted by Aanjalie Collure on 04/20/17 1

Twice the Syrian government detained Ateek, while he was studying at the University of Aleppo. Now, 28-years old, he is completing his PhD at Anglia Ruskin University in London in English and intercultural communication. He is also the Director of the Syria Solidarity Campaign, which tries to amplify the voices of Syrians struggling for peace and freedom. “When I got detained in Syria. It was for one month. I was very much confused about what’s going to happen to me, am I going to be executed. You’re not jailed for a crime, you’re jailed for a political reason.”
