Autism Service Dog Feature: Carter's Story

submitted by SDWR on 03/29/17 1

"My son Carter is 6 and 1/2 years old. Carter has severe autism and is considered non-verbal....As a parent of a child with autism, our biggest fear is the wandering away and having something happen to him. We don't know where they're going to go to or what danger they will find. It's terrifying. Happy is a yellow lab, he has been with us for 2 years. Happy's very first day with us, Carter immediately sat down beside him and let Happy lick him. They immediately had a bond. Happy is Carter's constant companion and always watching him."- Markeeta April is Autism Awareness month and SDWR is calling attention to the families behind our Autism Service Dogs. We are honored to be welcomed into their lives, homes and treatment plans. To see more SDWR families with their Autism Service Dogs visit www.sdwr.org/autism-service-dogs-videos/
