Painter Brent Learned is an Oklahoma native and a descendant of Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes. His art uses a contemporary perspective to depict the life known to some of his ancestors. He uses a vibrant color palette, juxtaposing hues that might seem counterintuitive to couple. That approach, Learned said enables him to create artwork that captures the essence and historic authenticity of the American Plains Indian way of life. For Learned, that contemporary point of view is firmly rooted in the, sometimes bloody, history of the West. A history he said that must not be forgotten or overlooked.
