PART 5: WHEN WE WERE CHILDREN, directed by Steve Slocomb The story of the extraordinary plant called bitterroot. Part 5 recounts stories from Salish Indian elders about their journeys to the Bitterroot Mountains to dig for bitterroot. The plant was a staple of the Salish diet and medicine. This is also a heartfelt elegy for what has been lost in Native culture and custom, as private, white landowners refused to allow traditional Salish people to dig for bitterroot in the Missoula and Bitterroot valleys. Testimonials by Oshanee Kenmille, Louie Adams, and Johnny Arlee.
