The holiday commemorates the slaughter of a ram by the biblical Abraham, or Ibrahim in Arabic, in place of his son. But the feast is not without critics, former film star turned animal rights activist Brigitte Bardot has said the ritual sacrifice of lambs will 'bathe France's earth in blood.
