Earth Expeditions: A Wirewalker of the Deep

submitted by Climate Change:How Skewed Are We...Reall on 02/06/17 1

Scientists lower the Wirewalker into the ocean, where it will travel up and down a 150-meter-long wire between a drifting surface buoy and sediment traps. The instrument is designed to provide numerous measurements along the water column, including temperature, salinity, and oxygen levels. The month-long Sea to Space Particle Expedition in the northern Pacific is observing and characterizing ocean phytoplankton and their role in removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
