Dirty Air We Breathe is the third song on Ingrid Mae's debut album Sugarcoated. Sugarcoated was written and produced in Sydney at Squirrel Music studios. The album was mastered at Turtlerock Mastering by Rick O'Neil and features 12 songs. A self-confessed chaos addict, one-time sugar addict and rampant artist her sentiments of life and love can on the surface appear relatively benign almost symmetrical. She’s an old soul. She loves the idea of romance and sometimes loves a cliché’. Dig a little deeper however and her raw truth can slap you in the face. It is this very juxtaposition that set the scene for her debut album in the first place. Sugarcoated is as much intended to tell stories that woo and charm as it is a cry for realism and authenticity. Dirty Air We Breathe is a rock song. It features slide guitars, heavy drums and an emotional vocal. It's industrial-like guitar sounds mirror heavy machines and is intended to be a metaphor to what some reckless production does to our environment. Ingrid Mae shot and edited the footage which was intended to capture the dark mysterious side in us all. It's almost like mother earth herself is the head-dress wearing woman trying to convince us to take a stand before it's too late. Ingrid Mae wrote the song after watching a documentary featuring David Suzuki on the plight of our planet and the pollution we are breathing in every day.
