A tutorial on Composing a Bed of Background Music Things you'll learn in this tutorial: 1 - How to combine various instruments to make one overall texture 2 - How to create a granular feel using many notes 3 - How to make your music disappear into the background by keeping your dynamics straight and level and notes predictable. 4 - A very subtle way of using rhythmic instruments Background Music or underscore is a tool used to subconsciously transport viewers to a specific place, time, dimension, etc. It is especially used to assist viewers to feel certain emotions. So you can imagine it's a vital part of composing. In this tutorial I take you through one of my methods of creating underscore by making a bed of rhythmic style ethnic and not so ethnic instruments, combining to fill the background space beautifully and provide a canvas on which to play longer, sweeping instruments over. Please leave a comment if you have any experiences or additional information you can add. We're all eager to learn new stuff so go wild. Steve. PLEASE SHARE if you find this useful and give me a thumbs up if you think it deserves it. Cheers. In this tutorial I use: - Pro Tools 12 HD - Quantum Leap Silk - Sarod, Duduk - Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra - Marimba, Celesta - Quantum Leap Gypsy - Cimbalom - Quantum Leap Storm Drum 3 - Log Drum www.soundsonline.com
