Over 130 people and their pets unleashed the spirited fun of Halloween at Glen Cove’s 5th Annual Howl’oween Pet Parade. Sponsored by Glen Cove’s Department of Parks & Recreation, PETCO, Scoopy Doo and Valley Sport & Trophy, the parade and costume contest brought out Glen Cove’s creative best. There were princesses, bumble bees, jail birds, devils, fire and police dogs, a dragon and even a real rabbit. Each participant was asked to bring a canned food or toy donation to benefit Cove Animal Rescue. “The Howl’oween parade is a pet project of Darcy Belyea and her Parks & Recreation team and each year they do a pet-tacular job,” said Mayor Reggie Spinello. “This parade gives us permission to expand our City events to include the pets of our community; it’s their day to play dress up,” added Darcy Belyea, Director, Parks & Recreation. Trophies were awarded to pets and residents in the following categories with howling commentary provided by Dale Zurbrick. First place winners were: Smallest Pet: Yorkies Nick, Candy and Sophie dressed as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Biggest Pet: Nikki Curran dressed as a cat burglar doing hard time Most Exotic: Mooch the Ferret Best Costume: Lola, a Shiatzu dressed to her best Most Original Costume: Cooper Parker who rocked the crowd as a rocking horse Best Pet/Owner Costume Combo: Coco Fabiili with Andrew as bikers Participating vendors included North Coast Subaru, Top Dog Dinners, All Saints Regional School, and Mr. Softee with special thanks to Mary Stanco of the Chamber of Commerce, Downtown B.I.D., Glen Cove Police Department, EMS, Volunteer Fire Department and Auxiliary Police.
