How to Record to a Click - Tutorial

submitted by SteveNossiter on 12/28/16 1

A tutorial on the Click track in Pro Tools: 1 - How to create a click track 2 - How to turn the click on and off during recording and playback 3 - How to adjust the meter (3/4 or 4/4 etc) 4 - How to adjust the tempo (120bpm or 145bpm etc) - and how to automate the meter and tempo to change automatically throughout the recording. Playing to a click is super important to learn how to do. It's not always a good thing, eg: playing a nice solo romantic piano part, but when multitracking and especially when playing rhythmic sections, it's incredibly important. As I've learned Pro Tools, Cubase, Logic and other software over the years, one of the first things I'll do is learn how to create a click track and set it to the correct tempo and meter. The biggest reason for this is that I'm not great at keeping time. This helps me to lock things in and also to fine tune my midi later on using tools like quantizing and snapping to the grid. Please leave a comment if you have any experiences or additional information you can add. We're all eager to learn new stuff so go wild. Steve.
