West Virginia Water Contaminated By Clean Coal Chemicals

submitted by Erinb on 02/14/14 1

West Virginia water was contaminated after a chemical spill of MCHM into the waters of the Elk River, which is directly upstream from the water treatment plant. West Virginia residents were forced to stop using water for anything other than flushing as a result of the spill. Freedom Industries, a producer of specialty chemicals, is responsible for the leak of a chemical that is used in the process of coal cleaning. Mark Sovel and Lissette Padilla discuss the inadequate response to the incident by West Virginia's congressional representatives, in this clip from the Lip News.
