"Latino Youth for Higher Education Program is composed of college students with an interest in improving the quality of education for low income students, especially those of Latino origin. In conjunction with other community based organizations, the members of this organization help promote college awareness and success to minority students. This goal is achieved through the creation of workshops, tutoring, lesson plans and fundraisers in order to assist the closing of the achievement gap in New York City" The idea for Latino Youth for Higher Education Program (LYHEP) was created out of our own experiences as immigrants, sons and daughters of immigrants, who may have encountered the same obstacles and difficulties that Latino students experience today with entering college. The lack of resources, mainly knowledge, available to the students about their possibilities is our main concern.
