How to grow a beard using Minoxidil. Welcome back to #KeepItBasik, the series where I talk to you about the do's and don'ts to growing a beard. I crack down on misinformation and bust myths regarding beard products. This episode I want to talk to you about Minoxidil. Most of you know Minoxidil as the most common brand name, Rogaine. It's a product that's used to regrow hair on your head if you're suffering from baldness. Most commonly in men (Male Pattern Baldness). You might be thinking "That's not meant for growing facial hair, that's meant for growing hair on your head so why are you talking about that product in a beard video on a beard channel?". Well, most of you probably already know this but a lot of people are actually using Minoxidil to grow hair on their face. I'm actually one of those people. You might be thinking "What's the point in that? People use stop using Minoxidil usually have their hair fall out.". Well, that may be true for hair on your head, but that's not the case for hair on your face. See, the reason why most people deal with baldness is because they have a sensitivity to DHT (dihydrotestosterone). DHT actually attacks the hair follicle and causes it to miniaturize. Hair on your face on the other hand, is actually dependant on DHT to both grow and develop. So, once you stop using Minoxidil on your face, as long as the hair has gone terminal and matured, it's not going to fall out of your face because obviously DHT isn't going to attack it and cause it to miniaturize the same way it does to the hair on your scalp. In fact, the DHT will help develop that hair and cause it to mature while you're using Minoxidil. A lot of men, don't feel very happy with the beard that they have, including me, and often try to do anything they can to fill in either the patchiness or thinning spots they have on their face. I personally am trying to fill in my under lip, thicken up my mustache and fill in a little bit of thinness I have on the cheeks. I've been on Minoxidil for about 6 months, right now it's working for me. I don't have a whole lot of progress, but I definitely have progress. For some people, progress might be a little faster than others. It could take up to a year or more for some people to get the results they're looking for, and it might only take a few months for other people. It just depends on your genetics, your lifestyle, all that good stuff. There's not really one factor that controls your progress. So if you're in your mid 20's or older and suffering from a patchy, thin beard and you're thinking there's nothing you can do about it. That's not the case actually. Minoxidil CAN help you. There actually are some people who apparently have a resistance to Minoxidil and no matter how long they use it they won't see any results or they'll see very minimal results. If you do try to use Minoxidil, try to stick in for at least 3-4 months, if you're not seeing any results after that maybe talk to people, there's actually a group on Facebook called The Minox Beard Spot. I'm a moderator over there. If you go check that out, there's a lot of very helpful people. They have lots of answers to any questions to might have, as well as a lot of the videos I do on my channel actually answer a lot of questions you might have on your Minox journey. So go over to Facebook and check that out, there's over 17,000 people in that group right now, tons of them are super helpful there, a lot of them are very knowledgeable on the subject and you'll see tons of progress pictures on there as well.
