The newest Smithsonian is slated for a historic opening on September 24. The National Museum of African American History and Culture invited President Barack Obama to cut the ribbon on its official grand opening day. The Smithsonian's 19th museum spans 400,000 square feet on the National Mall, and has been 13 years in the making.
