Black America: Expanding The Eye For Art History, With Kellie Jones

submitted by October Gallery on 11/01/16 1

Art Historian Kellie Jones says she was surprised when she received the call that she was selected as a winner of the prestigious MacArthur Fellowship for 2016. As an art curator and a professor of art history and archeology at Columbia University, she simply found a way to fulfill her love for art while giving artists of color a platform. Jones joins Carol Jenkins to discuss her award, her work, and being a part of the prestigious Baraka/Jones family. (Taped: 09/28/16) Black America is an in-depth conversation that explores what it means to be Black in America. The show profiles Black activists, academics, business leaders, sports figures, elected officials, artists and writers to gauge this experience in a time of both turbulence and breakthroughs. Black America is hosted by Carol Jenkins, Emmy award winning New York City journalist, and founding president of The Women's Media Center www.cuny.tv/show/blackamerica
