Rocky Mountain National Park near Estes Park Colorado was set aside in part for its high mountain peaks where Alpine tundra dominates the landscape. Fully one-third of the park is above the tree line. This is a harsh yet fragile environment where the growing season is short—and only the hardiest plants survive.
