Hi 5 Lo 5 wifi takka takka dhim, a dialogue for four dancers, is a piece about intolerance and bullying. The piece originally stemmed from the experiences of the choreographer when he arrived in Canada as a young immigrant of color. Much of it is autobiographical and reflects his real experiences as a child and later on in adult life through contemporary dance, indian dance and martial arts. Expanded beyond the choreographers experience in 1968, Roger Sinha is taking a more universal approach and going beyond his own personal experiences. Hi 5 LO 5 wifi takka takka dhim also reflects contemporary society’s obsession with smart phones and social media, so prevalent in our daily life particularly among teenagers. Bullying stems from the inability to communicate which leads to communicating in inappropriate ways. Often technology undermines the frequency of people talking together in ways that are healthy and harmonious.
