This CD levitates magnetically. It is also easy to make. You will need a lot of magnets, old CDs and a CD box. Remove all the CDs from a CD box. What will remain will be the base and the central stem. Cut the stem to a height of about 4-cm. Place an old CD in the centre of the base. Apply glue in a ring all around the periphery. Let the glue dry and then place magnets all around the circle. Make a ring of magnets with the same pole on the top. Stick magnets in a similar way to another CD. The magnets on the second CD will have the same polarities as the first one. Apply some more glue so that the magnets stick well to the CD. If you place the second CD on the stem then the magnets of both CDs will have the same poles facing each other and they will REPEL. So the top CD will be levitated. You can spin the top CD and it will rotate freely. The top CD will be floating freely on a cushion of magnetic force. Stick a handle to the top CD. This will provide a good grip for spinning it. Now spin the top CD and because of very little friction it will keep spinning for a very long time. You can also stick a Newton’s Color Disk on the top CD. On spinning all the colors will merge and you will see a grayish white.
