PAPER STATIC | Punjabi

submitted by Paola Limone on 10/06/16 1

This is a wonderful experiment on static electricity. You will need a paper cup, a straw, a sharp pencil, a strip of paper and some tissue paper. Poke the pencil point in the centre of the cup. The cup will make the pencil stand. Then fold a plus sign in a strip of paper so as to locate its centre – its pivot. Now gently perch the paper on the pencil tip. Ensure that the paper rotates smoothly. Now rub a plastic straw a few times with tissue paper. This will knock out some of the electrons from the straw and will make it electrically charged! On bringing the straw near the paper the paper will magically follow the straw. The plastic straw becomes like a magic wand and the paper just follows it. This work is supported by IUCAA (www.iucaa.in) and TATA Trust (www.tatatrusts.org/) and (www.tata.com/aboutus/sub_index/Tata-trusts) TATA Trust: Education is one of the key focus areas for Tata Trusts, aiming towards enabling access of quality education to the underprivileged population in India.
