Godly Leadership in an Ungodly World: Encouragement for Faithful Service (A study of the First and Second books of Timothy) If you ever find yourself discouraged in the Christian life by the circumstances around you, or unsure of your ministry and calling, then this study is what you are looking for. I welcome each one of you as we study Paul's letters to his son in the faith, Timothy. In his first letter, he encourages this young pastor to keep on going and not to be discouraged. Paul urges Timothy to "fight the good fight of faith," (1 Tim. 1:18). He tells him not to be intimidated by opposition because of his age but instead to lead by example" (1 Tim. 4:12). In his second letter he warns him that in the last days, people will be lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God (2 Tim. 3:1-5). In the midst of difficult times, Timothy is to "preach the word in season and out of season," (2 Tim. 4:2). Timothy, like Paul, is called to a great undertaking. He has been entrusted with the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ (1Tim. 1:11-2). So Paul says, follow me in my example (2 Tim. 3:10). Fight the good fight; finish the race; keep the faith. (2 Tim. 4:7). Please join a small group so you can discuss the relevant and practical instructions found in Paul's letters. May God encourage us to godly leadership and faithful service as we study the first letter and second letter of the Apostle Paul to the Apostle Timothy. Memory Verse: 2 Timothy 3:16-17 “All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
