www.ireland-travels.com www.facebook.com/IrelandTravels Follow @TravelsIreland Ireland travel is about taking a journey into the magical. While taking a tour of Ireland you should always include time to travel West Cork and Mizen Head. You can experience more of the West Cork (youtu.be/RsCKBYW955Q) area and Mizen Head at my Ireland blog using the links above. Whether you are walking the paths of the many parks, climbing the rocky hills, fishing from the rugged coastline, sitting on a sandy beach, taking photographs of the Irish countryside or cycling the winding roads; a tour of this scenic area of southwest County Cork, Ireland is a must. What is the best part of Crookhaven? The harbor? No. The views of the surrounding hillside? No. The warmth of the sun on a beautiful day? No. The mesmerizing sight of masts and sails bobbing back-and-forth? Again, no. The best part of Crookhaven, and possibly the world, is O'Sullivans Bar. Our quick trip through a remote portion of West Cork begins in the village of Crookhaven. It is imperative before you leave town that you stop in the pub for a filling meal and a pint. Whatever you do, don't have the Guinness. Try the Murphy's! After you've enjoyed your toasted special, order a scone with jam. Get two; you know you'll eat them both! After you leave town, you will wind your way back to Galley Cove. You can take the turn at the beach and follow the lane up to the top of Brow Head (youtu.be/fdyNQLhDVOQ). From the top, you will see Marconi Tower, Mizen Head (youtu.be/P7z7hdDd2AU), Barley Cove and the Fastnet Rock. After you pass the turn for Galley Cove, White Strand will be on your right. The tides are amazing here. If the tide is out, you will have a massive beach area to explore. If the tide is in, the water will nearly come all the way to the wall lining the road. Continuing along, you will drive the entire northwest length of Crookhaven harbor. On a sunny day, the water sparkles making the entire scene beautiful. Eventually you will come to the small village of Goleen. This small farm town is home to a couple of shops and a few pubs. Past Goleen, you will head into the hills and the remote areas of the Mizen. Winding along the narrow roads, you will come to Sheehan's Pass. As you cross over the pass, Dunmanus Bay and Sheep's Head come into view. Making your way down the hill will make you thankful for a good set of brakes. You will continue to drive through the farms that make up the north side of the Mizen peninsula. Authors Patrick McCarthy and Richard Hawkes wrote about the history and traditions of this wonderful area in their book Backside of the Mizen. Finally arriving at the end of your journey, it is time to light a fire, pour a cup of tea, grab a book and settle in for a quiet evening. Planning your next vacation to Ireland? Don't forget to tour West Cork, Crookhaven and the Mizen peninsula! This video was taken using my GoPro Hero 2 Motorsports Edition. Thanks to Nissan for giving me a relatively flat surface to mount the camera. www.ireland-travels.com www.facebook.com/IrelandTravels Follow @TravelsIreland Track title: Hillside Celebrations
