How To Prune Trees

submitted by Ching Yang on 09/25/16 1

When its time to prune, have an idea of what areas and where you need to prune. Depending on the size of your tree, you may need the following equipment: scissor cut sheers, loppers, pruning saw, pole saw, ladder and work gloves. For long limbs that are damaged, start on the outside and work your way in. When sawing, be aware of the branch bark ridge and the branch collar. You will want to cut right before these to prevent damage. For smaller damaged limbs on the leader branches, remove with sheers. New growth is also very important for your trees health. A terminal bud is a bud at the end of a tree branch that releases hormones that slow the growth of other buds on the chute. Lateral buds are the buds on the chute that make it bushy. To maintain proper health, trim off the terminal buds. Pruning your trees the right way and for the right reasons with make them look better and stay healthier.
