Table N: Speculative design as tactics for socio-technical interfaces "Speculative design as tactics for socio-technical interfaces" In his text Design and the Construction of Publics, Carl DiSalvo poses the question: “How are publics made with things?”[1] This is particularly important, because, as he points out, a lot of the ‘things’ (products, processes) of design are increasingly politicized. Interfaces as things of design in particular suggest a necessity to be scrutinized – and especially at a time of renewed interest in the intersections and relays between technology, culture and society. For this panel we propose to explore Speculative Design and its potential to present, question and challenge future consequences of issues at the interface of technology and the social. We are keen to explore Speculative Design as a tactic and no so much as a coherent design tradition as we are aware of some of its limitations and aesthetic tropes. In this sense it will be deployed as a set of statagems and operations aimed at exploring political and aesthetic paradigms covered by layers of usability and effectiveness. + INFO: www.gredits.org/interfacepolitics/en/colldoo-a-new-cooperative-design-tool-3/
