Medical tourism in Iran

It has been estimated that every year global tourism revenues reaches about one trillion dollars. Ten percent of that is the fortune is made through medical tourism. Tourists primarily seek medical treatment abroad and afterwards leisure and relaxation. The reasons behind this phenomenon are long waiting lists for surgery, costly health care, poor insurance coverage, and natural resources and traditional medicine in destination countries. Brazil, India, Malaysia, Thailand, and Turkey are among the top medical tourism destinations. Iran is the country which possesses great potentiality in medical tourism. Many hospital and medical centers exist in Iran which are geared up to give medical service to foreign patients. Iranian government also took some measure to develop the industry. The Ministry of Health formed a special team to lead and coordinate the organization involved in medical tourism.
