On the first of May, Cagliari and the whole of Sardinia will celebrate the 359th feast of Saint Efisio. This intense moment combines faith, culture and ancient traditions in a special calibration which is unique in the world. The vow to Sant’Efisio was made in 1652 by Cagliari Municipality and still today the municipal administration is the custodian and warrant of its fulfillment. Since more than 350 years the communities of Cagliari and those of the places along the processional route (Giorgino, Su Loi, Villa d’Orri, Sarroch, Villa S. Pietro, Pula e Nora), the entire Ecclesiastical Province (Dioceses of Cagliari, Iglesias, Lanusei, Nuoro, Oristano, Ales-Terralba, Alghero-Bosa, Ozieri, Sassari, Tempio-Ampurias) and thousands of devotees from all over Sardinia participate in this ritual. Tens of thousands of people of all ages participate actively in the rituals and their preparation. In particular, confraternities, thousands of cultural associations and groups all year round perform a number of preparatory activities to the ritual and to the feast. www.cagliariturismo.it/en/special-events/359th-feast-of-sant-efisio-17
