In April 2013, Norwegian Cruise Line took delivery of the first in a new class of cruise ship - the Breakaway-class with "Norwegian Breakaway" being built in Germany and then heading to New York via Rotterdam and Southampton. In January 2014, the second ship in the class - "Norwegian Getaway" was handed over and was to follow a similar itinerary though would be spending a few nights more in Southampton than "Breakaway" had done. "Norwegian Getaway" arrived at Southampton's 'City' Cruise Terminal for the first time around 9:00 on the morning of Tuesday 14th January 2014. She had sailed overnight from Rotterdam and undertook the first of two 1-night 'Cruise-to-Nowhere' trips out into the English Channel for Travel Agents & other paying guests. She sailed at 17:15 having been slightly delayed due to the departure of a container ship. Also in Southampton on the 14th was Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines' "Black Watch" turning round at the 'Ocean' Terminal before sailing off at 19:05 on a 114-night cruise around Australia & South America with the first Port of Call being Funchal, Maderia and returning to Southampton on Thursday 8th May.
