This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Andrew B. Williams is a successful humanoid roboticist who, despite his great successes, argues that a huge portion of the population is made to feel like they don't belong in technology. Andrew's story ranges from designing soccer robots, to competing in Robocup (a global robot-soccer tournament), to working for Apple for a position designed specifically for him by Steve Jobs. Andrew B. Williams is a humanoid robotics professor who studies how robots can learn creativity through social interaction. He shares stories on how fostering a sense of belonging in students can lead to a more diverse, creative workforce and how a serendipitous meeting with Steve Jobs led to him becoming Apple’s first senior engineering diversity manager.
