The audience, in disbelief, was silent as her last note fell and she ripped up a photo of the pontiff. She was lambasted in the press, and even pop-fame-machine Madonna found a reason to insult and dismiss her in an effort to pander to a nation that was not yet ready to know the truth about the RCC. Years later, we would all find out just why Sinead was so angry.
