Tennis footwork and a great split step are extremely important to your game. By being able to cover the court and organize yourself during split steps, you will make more balls back and ultimately win more tennis matches. The first tennis footwork drill is called the land and go. Start out in a ready position and then jump up high. Concentrate on landing on one foot and exploding into one direction. During this tennis footwork drill, if you land on your left foot, sprint to your right. If you land on your right foot, sprint out to your left. The second tennis footwork drill we will cover is called the Ball Drop. This is a great drill to work on during you tennis fitness training improve your tennis footwork and reaction to a visual stimulus. Use the same tennis footwork pattern and landing technique as the Land and Go except this time, you will have to react to your partner. Your partner will drop a tennis ball on either side of their body while you are in mid air, and you will have to use your improved tennis footwork to react and run off to that direction. Practice this tennis footwork drills during your tennis fitness training sessions consistently and you will not only see your tennis footwork improve, but also your reaction time!
