www.vladtv.com - To this day Houston lyricists are celebrated for making their hometown a staple in hip-hop culture. Artists worldwide pay homage to artists like UGK and Scarface on a regular basis, but the city itself has only had a handful of its newer artists reach the success so many others have in the past. DJ Vlad asked Lil Flip the reason that may be, and according to him "sometimes being in a market where you can eat so good can make you lazy." "Then sometimes you [have] some people that don't treat music like it's everything," he continued. "Like me, I love music - music is a part of my life. But music is not my whole life so it's like, I don't spend all my day doing music..." He later added "there's only so many ways you can rap about pouring up." Lil Flip was also asked how he feels about A$AP Rocky's Houston-influenced raps. "I could still hear the New York in him, too on some of his lyrics and s**t, but I thought it was dope," he answered regarding the first time he heard Rocky's sound. "A year after I heard his music I met him in the club and s**t and he showed respect...And then the next thing I know his next album [came out] and he shouted me out on the intro," he relayed to DJ Vlad. "Look how God works." Watch and listen as Lil Flip explains the importance of showing homage while still showcasing one's own style during our newest, exclusive clip.
