Gesualdo, Tenebrae Responsories for Maundy Thursday, The King's Singers This album is by the Italian Renaissance composer Carlo Gesualdo. He is considered to be one of the finest and certainly one of the most innovative composers of Italian madrigals in the late Renaissance. In this album we can found his use of dissonance and phrasing to be way ahead of his time, creating very beautiful and haunting choral music. The listener will get the most from this music by guiding their listening with the liner notes, in a meditative environment like the Abby where it was recorded. The king's singers made considerable effort to be very picturesque in their interpretation of the Lessons of the Holy Week story making the music come to new life even though it was written 400 years ago!.(www.kingssingers.com) Singers: David Hurley (countertenor), Robin Tyson (countertenor), Paul Phoenix (tenor), Philip Lawson (baritone), Gabriel Crouch (baritone), Stephen Connolly (bass). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlo_Gesualdo Scores: www0.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php/Tenebrae_Responsories_for_Maundy_Thursday_(Carlo_Gesualdo) 01 - Lectio 1 - 0:00 Responsories from 1st Nocturn 02 - In Monte Oliveti - 4:40 03 - Tristis est anima mea - 9:20 04 - Ecce Vidimus Eum - 14:05 05 - Lectio 2 - 21:30 Responsories from 2nd Nocturn 06 - Amicus Meus Osculi - 25:46 07 - Judas Mercator Pessimus - 29:39 08 - Unus ex Discipulis Meis - 31:20 09 - Lectio 3 - 37:20 Responsories from 3rd Nocturn 10 - Eram quasi Agnus Innocens - 42:22 11 - Una Hora non Potuistis - 47:33 12 - Seniores Populi Consilium - 51:02 13 - Benedictus - 57:26 14 - Christus Factus Est - 1:04:39
