The Portencross Machair, Ayrshire, Scotland

submitted by uklmhb on 05/24/16 1

The fields bordering the ocean at Portencross are essentially similar to the famously fertile and herb rich machair of the Outer Hebrides, etc. The flora and fauna are strongly influenced by red sandstone substrate and calcium carbonate from shells washed up by the beach.
