Durham Cathedral & Castle are built upon a peninsula of rock, high above the River Wear. the Norman Cathedral & Castle dominate the skyline. Durham is a major University City and popular tourist destination from around the UK & World. The Cathedral & Castle hold "World Heritage Site" status. A popular activity for both tourists & residents is to hire a rowing boat from the boat house near Elvet Bridge.
