The 13th Floor Elevators - You're Gonna Miss Me (1966) HQ

Well, a rather amusing movie scene came to mind yesterday morning and, for some reason, this song also came to mind, as did a wave of nostalgia for a number of mid-to-late 60's and early 70's pulp and action/romance films. "You're Gonna Miss Me" kicks off as the score mid-way through the opening scene for this wild and crazy jaunt through celluloid. Many regard this tune as the first psychedelic hit and The 13th Floor Elevators as the first psychedelic band. However, some contend the honor to be held by Syndicate of Sound's June 1966 Top Ten hit "Little Girl." The lively, energetic "You're Gonna Miss Me" was released in late August 1966, peaking at #55 on Billboard, but doing better at #50 on Cash Box. An excellent harmonica solo and top-notch guitar work reminiscent of The Shadows, Link Wray, and John Barry Seven make this a perfect pulp movie soundtrack.
