Chances are that if you drove off to go picnicking at the beach during the summer during the mid 1960's, you heard this song a lot on the radio (if your local deejay was any good, that is). A major star since his release of "Blue Angel" and "Only The Lonely" in 1960, "Oh, Pretty Woman" may have been the great Roy Orbison's biggest and most easily remembered hit. And if wearing shades wasn't already cool, by the time this song was hitting the airwaves in August 1964, sunglasses were in in in! And for that year at least, shades were associated with the Roy Orbison "look" ... and this great summer smash single which shot to #1 on Cash Box on September 19, 1964 and held the position for three weeks! For the next two years "Oh, Pretty Woman" would remain a popular summer oldies staple.
