Female trio from Northampton with members Pauline Bennett, Sue Marshall and Susie Mathis. The three girls had known each other since childhood while at their school. They boarded at Northampton's Pitt-Draffen Academy of Dramatic Arts where they studied dance. After leaving the school, the threesome named themselves The Dolly Set and, singing covers of the day, incorporated their dancing skills into the act. Tony Macaulay had written "Something Here in My Heart (Keeps A Tellin' Me No)" with his partner John Macleod and the duo were looking for a group to record it. Auditions were held to find a suitable girl group to record the song. Pauline, Sue and Susie intended to attend the auditions, but reaching the studio doors, decided to leave since they felt they weren't ready for a recording career. Afterward, Macaulay was contacted by the girls and the trio were accepted. Pye had its new girl group it was wanting to promote. The Dolly Set name was dropped in favour of The Paper Dolls. Each girl adopted a nickname: Pauline became Spyder, Sue was Copper and Susie was Tiger. The trio moved to London and recorded "Something Here in My Heart" at Pye's Bryanston Street studio with John Macleod arranging the song. In order to present a whole package, publicist David Cardwell and stylist Stephen Komlosy worked on their image. The release of "Something Here in My Heart" peaked at number 11 on May 1 1968.
