The Surfmen were a Californian surf-rock group that evolved out of a teen band named 'The Expressos' formed by Ray Hunt in 1960. Their original line-up consisted of Ray Hunt (lead), Nick Drury (rhythm), Armon Frank (sax), Randall Anglin (bass) & Tim Fitzpatrick (drums). The departure of Ray Hunt, subsequently replaced by Jim Masoner on lead guitar, ushered in a number of line-up changes in short succession. After replacing Drury, Anglin, and Frank (who became part of Dick Dale's Deltones) with Ed Chiaverini, Ron Griffith, and Joel Willenbring, they changed their name to The Lively Ones in 1962.
