Science fiction becomes science fact. Crew members aboard the International Space Station performed the first checkouts for Project Sidekick on Saturday, Feb. 20. Sidekick uses Microsoft's HoloLens to enable station crews with assistance when and where they need it. A pair of devices arrived in December 2015 on Orbital ATK's Cygnus cargo craft. Expedition 46 Commander Scott Kelly performed the checkout with team members in Mission Control Houston. Sidekick has two modes of operation to provide virtual aid to astronauts, which could reduce crew training requirements and increase the efficiency at which astronauts can work in space.
