Google 3D Warehouse Tips - Dynamic Components Explained

submitted by sketchup_archive on 04/15/16 1

When designing a space in Google SketchUp, you have the option to include models of real products from the Google 3D Warehouse using SketchUp's Get Models tool. When searching the Warehouse, you may find it useful to narrow your search down to Dynamic Components. One option for narrowing your search is to include the modifier "is:Dynamic" at the end of your search phrase, for example: "Base Cabinet Pots and Pans" followed by "is:Dynamic". Additionally, when browsing the warehouse, you'll want to keep an eye out for the Dynamic Component symbol, which looks like this -- 2 Green Squares and a Triangle. These search techniques and symbols are also relevant if searching the warehouse from within SketchUp's component browser. If you are browsing the Warehouse from the Get Models dialog, you can search for and download a Dynamic Component directly into your project to work with it. If you are using your web browser to download the 3D model to a folder on your computer's hard drive, you must then IMPORT the file into Google SketchUp in order to preserve its dynamic functionality. Once imported, these virtual products can be customized to a particular SKU with just a few clicks of your mouse. Dynamic Components also include additional information and interactive functionality built right into them, making them smart enough to behave as they would in the real world.
