Gipsyun at Stonehenge, by Edward Slow

submitted by uklmhb on 03/11/16 1

One of Edward Slow's more typically enjoyable rhymes, describing a days jaunt with horse and cart (ie: gipsying) up from Berwick St James over the Salisbury Plain to Stonehenge. Edward Slow (1841-1925) wrote many rhymes and tales in the old Wiltshire dialect, creating a valuable record of the society in and about Wilton, Salisbury and south Wiltshire. See my website about him and his works at www.edwardslow.wordpress.com . I have used some old postcards and images, along with some fine black-and-white images from photobucket, and, well, I couldn't resist a few colour images of the annual lunacy that takes place at Stonehenge.
