Iceland

Recorded September 4-6, 2008. My visit to Iceland, the land of fire and ice. The video begins on the Sea Princess as we cross the Arctic Circle off the north coast of Iceland. The following morning we dock in Akureyri in Northern Iceland. On my tour I visited Goðafoss (waterfall of the Gods), Mývatn (a shallow eutrophic lake situated in an area of active volcanism), Námafjall (a high-temperature geothermal area with fumaroles and boiling mud pools), Dimmuborgir ("The Dark Fortress," huge lava rock formations) and Skútustaðagígar (pseudocraters). After returning to Akureyri we were treated to quite a show in the harbor, as two bottlenosed whales, a mother and her calf, frolicked in the water. After a short walk around the city of Akureyri we sailed away up the Eyjafjordur Fjord. The next morning we docked in Reykjavik. I took the Golden Circle tour here. I visited Þingvellir (site of a rift valley that marks the crest of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge), Geysir (sometimes known as The Great Geysir) and Gullfoss (Golden Waterfalls). After returning to Reykjavik we visited the Pearl, a observation platform with a nice view of the city. Lastly we return to the harbor and sail off to Greenland. From: timvp.com
