The temperature in the cave system maintains a constant eight degrees Celsius and its paths and bridges are easy to negotiate. In the nineteenth century Postojnska Jama was known throughout Europe and America and was visited by travellers, scientists and various monarchs. When in 1857 the railway line between Vienna and Trieste saw the opening of the Postojna Railway Station, cave tourism was born.
