Natural Sound Eight hundred elite British soldiers from the First Battalion of the Parachute Regiment have been air lifted into Pristina. The soldiers, each carrying 150lb (75kilos) of equipment, were cheered by ethnic-Albanians as they entered the city. But not everyone welcomed them, and a paratrooper on foot patrol in the city shot dead a Serb brandishing a pistol on Sunday. The man, who was in civilian clothes, is believed to have been a Serbian special policeman. The paratroopers arrived in trucks and Chinook helicopters. Crowds lined the streets to welcome the troops from the First Battalion of the Parachute Regiment. More paratroopers are expected in and around Pristina later, as U-S Marines begin to relieve the British Paras in southern Kosovo. Their arrival was overshadowed by the killing of a man thought to be a Serbian special policeman. A soldier on foot patrol in the capital was confronted by a man waving a pistol on Sunday morning. The man, who was in civilian clothes was called on six times to put the gun down, but responded by firing a shot in the general direction of the British soldier. The paratrooper returned fire, killing the man instantly. The shooting is bound to increase tension in the city, where Nato and Yugoslav troops have spent the day in uneasy proximity. Nato insists its drive into Kosovo is going according to plan, despite reports of confrontations with Serb troops and continuing tensions over Russia's role in the peacekeeping operation.
