Kosovo's government has announced sanctions against Russia over their invasion of Ukraine. The Balkan republic made the symbolic move in a sign of unity with their allies in Europe and America. NATO helped Kosovo secure independence from Russian ally Serbia in the late 1990s. Earlier this year Moscow cited Kosovan independence as a justification for their illegal takeover of Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula.
