We made an unplaned stop at Traunsee which is a Lake, and took a walk in Traunkirchen an idyllic little village named after the lake.. or the other way around. Moving on from there we drove out of the alps into a flatter landscape heading north east. I first heard of Melk Abbey through Souldtravelers3 and just thought it looked impressive and really wanted to check it out. Dad was up for it, so we made a stop at the Abbey on our way to Vienna. Milk Abbey was founded in 1089 and is known for mainly 2 things. It’s frescoed ceilings and it’s extensive and impressive library. The value of the books seems to be the reason why Melk Abbey was never seized or dissolved like many other Abbeys. When the Abbey needed a renovation 20 years ago, they partially funded it by selling their famous Gutenberg bible to Harvard University.
